The time that it takes to complete the administration of an estate depends on several factors, including the type of assets, liabilities due and charges against properties, laws of foreign countries where assets may be located, the number of beneficiaries, whether there is adequate cash payable to pay IHT etc. It is therefore not possible to provide a general fixed fee for the work. Our charges for administering an estate are calculated based on complexity of the matter and the time taken. We do not charge based on the value of the estate. Our current hourly rates for the staff and partners (subject to changes) who would typically be involved range from £150 to £450 (plus VAT) per hour depending on the seniority of the staff.
Based on the nature of probate services, it is difficult to set out a timetable in advance for the progress and completion of the work. We work with the executors and keep them updated on the progress and where there are issues, if any.
The scope of our services and the fees will depend upon the complexity of the testator’s estate. Any tax planning arising out of the administration of the estate will be discussed with the client and billed separately.
Disbursements
Disbursements such as probate court fees and other third-party costs would be additional to the fees quoted above.
